Consumer and professional grade cameras that work with Aevocam

What qualifies a camera for use with Aevocam?

There are many security cameras and consumer webcams available. Not all of them are compatible. We rely on cameras to connect to our servers and proactively upload photos on the regular schedules you define. Currently, the only upload method we offer is FTP (see How to Configure My Cameras for details).

This also means that your camera must be connected to the Internet and able to access an FTP server on port 21.

Many camera vendors say that their devices can upload to "the cloud". But usually what they mean is that they offer a proprietary service for your cameras to upload video and still images to. You can then view your content via their website. Unfortunately, this does not make your stuff available to Aevocam. Make sure the camera explicitly says that it can use FTP to upload images to a service. That usually means you get to configure which service it uploads to.

We also offer an Aevocam plug-in for Home Assistant , an open-source smart home system. There are many cameras already compatible with HA. And HA already lets you take snapshots with them on a schedule. Our plug-in gives you a way to send them to us.

There is another workaround. DeskShare is a third-party program that is designed to FTP upload snapshots on a schedule from ordinary webcams. There may be other third party programs offering a similar feature.

Note: you don't need auto tracking, motion detection, etc. In fact, those features get in the way of Aevocam, which relies on seeing the same view every day. You can reuse your regular security cameras with Aevocam, but only if your users do not change the pan/tilt/zoom settings on them, and if they don't automatically follow people or movement.
